On the evening of April 14, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln attends a performance of Our American Cousin. Just before an assassin's bullet is to end the life of our 16th President, all the action stops and Lincoln, himself, takes the stage. With the help of the Our American Cousin's cast, Lincoln, with his signature humor, recounts and re-enacts his life story. Lincoln recalls his humble upbringing, his failure as a businessman and his early days as a lawyer. He recounts unrequited loves, lost loves and his marriage to Mary Todd. Launching into politics, Lincoln finds his calling and thus begins his most momentous role, as the foremost defender of theUnion. Historic relationships also develop, including one with Frederick Douglass, who was the leading Civil Rights activist of his time. Douglass' criticisms and prodding of Lincoln to do the right thing regarding slavery would become an important factor in Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation.Videos
