Unicorn Theatre's first production of the decade will be Grey Gardens, a Tony nominated musical based on the 1975 documentary of the same name. The story follows "Big Edie" and "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale, the eccentric aunt and cousin of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. Each act is set in a contrasting era of their truly unique lives. The first in 1941, during their glory days when the estate was at its pristine best, and the second in 1973, after it had become an unlivable shell of a home overridden by garbage, cats and raccoons. The iconic and unforgettable characters change with their surroundings in this remarkable new musicalby Doug Wright with music by Scott Frankel and lyrics by Michael Korie.

The play opened on Broadway in November of 2006 and was warmly welcomed by critics. Nominated for ten Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Original Score, Grey Gardens has been hailed by USA Today as having "the most tuneful and moving songs to grace an original musical in years" and "an experience no passionate theatergoer should miss" by the New York Times. This tragically comical show was also nominated for several Drama Desk Awards, Outer Circle Critics Awards and Drama League Awards.

The Unicorn production is directed and choreographed by Nedra Dixon with musical direction by Anthony T. Edwards. The cast is led by Cathy Barnett and Kathleen Warfel and features Brandon Sollenberger, Keenan Manuel Ramos, Robert Gibby Brand, Seth Golay, Lauren Braton, Erin Lowe and Katherine McNamara. Grey Gardenswill run on The Mainstage January 29th through February 28th with previews on January 27th and 28th. There will be a Saturday matinee on January 30th at 3:00pm.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.unicorntheatre.org, by phone at 816-531-PLAY or at the box office located at 3828 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64111.
