The MTH Theater at Crown Center is proud to present a workshop concert reading/singing of the new Kansas City based musical Nelly Don, on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 8:00 pm.

This workshop reading is part of MTH's "Original Musical Incubator" that began in 2016 with the original musical HURRICANE. The event is free to the public; however, reservations are required.

With book and lyrics by Terence O'Malley and music and lyrics by Daniel Doss, this event is art in the making and, at the same time, history in the making as it centers around one of the most innovative and successful women of the twentieth century, Kansas City's own, Nelly Don!

The reading is directed by Tim Scott and features Ashley Pankow in the role of Nelly Don. The ensemble also features Samantha Barboza, Jeff Berger, Ryan Hruza, Ron Lackey, Tom Lancaster, Emma Mae Marsten, Deanna Mazdra, Vincent Monachino, Zachary Parker, Josephine Pellow, Elise Poehling, Julie Shaw, and Bob Wearing.

In 1916, Nelly Don founded what grew to become the largest dress design and manufacturing company the world has ever seen. Using beautiful harmonies and playful lyrics, the play celebrates Nelly Don's unlikely tale of romance, fashion, glamour, politics, gangsters and decades of gorgeous dresses. Nelly Don's story shatters stereotypes and rejects barriers, deploying a colorful cast of historical KC characters that is sure to delight and entertain.

"The Original Musical Incubator generated a lot of excitement last year and we're extremely pleased to be able to continue this initiative. At MTH we honor the heritage of the American musical, it's exciting to work on an original piece and be a small part of this musical's history, especially a play based on such an incredible Kansas City icon," said Tim Scott.

This is a first come, first serve opportunity to experience what surely will become a cultural milestone in Kansas City and its ever-burgeoning theater and performing arts community. All seating must be reserved in advance. This is a highly anticipated event and seating is extremely limited.
