The MTH Theater has announced casting and additional details for its upcoming production of Lerner & Loewe's masterpiece, MY FAIR LADY. Allison Jones will assume the title role of Eliza Doolittle alongside esteemed Kansas City veteran Bruce Roach, as Henry Higgins.
The remainder of the thirteen person company includes Robert Gibby Brand, Sarah Belhouari, Elizabeth Birger, Connor Branson, Martin Buchanan, Darrington Clark, Brock Hatton, Lanette King, Marilyn Lynch, Keenan Ramos, and Margaret Shelby.
The production is Directed by Heidi Van with Music Direction by Jeremy Watson. The production features a scenic design by Mark Exline, lighting design by Nicole Jaja, sound design by John Hileman, costume design by Shannon Smith, and props design by Beth Benedict Borders.
"Right now is the perfect time to re-examine "My Fair Lady." Rather than playing the usual perspective of Henry Higgins transforming the life of Eliza, I'm putting Eliza in the drivers seat. This "My Fair Lady" illustrates that class and gender don't matter - that changing ones station in life is possible. Eliza decides, Eliza trains, Eliza executes, Eliza rises," said Van.
Based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, MY FAIR LADY features a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, so that she may pass as a lady. The original Broadway and London shows starred Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews. The musical's 1956 Broadway production was a notable critical and popular success. It set a record for the longest run of any show on Broadway up to that time. It was followed by a hit London production, a award-winning film version, and numerous revivals.
"MY FAIR LADY plays The MTH Theater at Crown Center September 13-30.
