The Last Night of Ballyhoo is authored by Pulizer Prize (Driving Miss Daisy) winning playwright, Alfred Uhry. Set in Atlanta, Georgia, members of the German Jewish Freitag family, struggle to assimilate into society while retaining their cultural identity. Hitler has invaded Poland and the Freitags are busy preparing for Christmas and the flurry of parties known as "Ballyhoo" for eligible young Jewish men and women.
In the romantic comedy, The Last Night at Ballyhoo, Uhry considers the ways people yearn to fit into a society which causes them to discriminate against their own. The Freitag family belongs to the "best" Jewish club in the city that will let them in, and in the beginning, they look down on "the other kind"; the Jews who refuse to try and "pass". Family relationships become frayed when a young man, proud of his Jewish heritage, falls in love with one of the Freitag women and cannot understand why the family would conceal their heritage.
