'The adventures of Louis de Rougemont - as told by himself' was the publishing phenomenon of the 1890s. In his autobiography, which was serialized in Wide World magazine, Englishman de Rougemont described his incredible thirty-year adventure lost in the vast, unexplored Australian outback. He sailed the high seas and met exotic islanders, flying wombats, giant sea turtles and an enormous man-eating octopus. Or did he? This "vaudevillian romp with radio theatre overtones" (Los Angeles Times) "springs to life like a theatrical pop-up book" (The New York Times).

Charles Fugate stars as Louis de Rougemont with Bob Linebarger and Megan Herrera playing all other roles in Donald Margulies' SHIPWRECKED! AN ENTERTAINMENT - THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF LOUIS DE ROUGEMONT (AS TOLD BY HIMSELF). Lighting design is by Nicole Jaja. Sound effects are created and performed onstage by Linebarger and Herrera. Gary Campbell designs costumes and props, the latter inspired by found objects. Vanessa Severo makes her Spinning Tree directorial debut.

According to playwright Margulies, the play is "about the very nature of artifice and storytelling." SHIPWRECKED! premiered in 2007 at South Coast Repertory, with subsequent major productions at Long Wharf Theatre, Geffen Playhouse in L.A. and Primary Stages in NYC. The 2016-2017 season will conclude May 24 - June 11 with the KC professional premiere of Stephen Sondheim's ASSASSINS. Spinning Tree Theatre exclusively utilizes local, professional talent and aims to produce works that celebrate and reflect the diversity of Kansas City.

SHIPWRECKED! AN ENTERTAINMENT, a Spinning Tree Theatre production, plays January 19 - February 5, 2017 at Just Off Broadway, 3051 Penn Valley Drive in Kansas City, Missouri
