Right Between the Ears, the sketch comedy series which ended its 32-year run in November 2017, picked up two awards at the 2018 Hear NOW Festival, underway this week in Kansas City.

The series received the first-ever Squeeky Pickle Award as Best Comedy Show in the Mark Time Awards, a legacy project of the legendary Firesign Theatre comedy troupe. In addition, RBTE creator/producer/writer Darrell Brogdon received the Mark Time Grandmaster Award. Awards were announced at the Hear NOW Festival by Firesign Theatre members David Ossman and Phil Proctor.

The Mark Time awards encourage creative use of the audio arts, encompassing skillful use of writing, sound effects, voice performance, acoustic environments, musical elements, and technological tools of the trade. The judging panel is made up of the surviving members of the Firesign Theatre family, the original founders of the Mark Time Awards, previous winners of the awards, and other professionals in the spoken word, broadcast, podcast, and audio arts community. This year the awards offered a new comedy category, the Squeeky Pickle Award.

Right Between the Ears broadcast the final episode of its sketch comedy series in November, ending a run of 32 years, during which the show received numerous awards, including four Gold Medals at the New York Festivals, Best of Show at the Silver Microphone Awards and four CPB Gold Program Awards.

The series was broadcast on National Public Radio and Sirius-XM, and has been heard on BBC Radio Four and Delta Radio. Archive episodes continue to air every week on KPR 2, Kansas Public Radio's news and talk channel, Wednesdays at 7:00pm and Saturdays at 1:00pm.

Right Between the Ears will launch a new show, Rex Dexter of Mars, with five performances at the 2018 KC Fringe Festival July 21-28. For show dates, times and ticket information, visit rightbetweentheears.com.
