Kansas City Actors Theatre closes Season 11 with THE ISLAND, directed by Walter Coppage and featuring Damron Russel Armstrong and Teddy Trice.
THE ISLAND is Robben Island, South Africa's notorious prison, where John and Winston are political prisoners and cellmates. After absurdly grueling days laboring under the sun, they return to their dark cell to rehearse a makeshift performance of Sophocles' play Antigone. Rehearsals in the cramped cell will test their friendship and strain their resilience in this gripping, vivid portrait of apartheid-era struggle.
This modern classic by Tony Award-winners Athol Fugard, John Kani, and Winston Ntshona celebrates hope, passion, and the strength of friendship.
Alex Murphy stage manages. The design team includes Shane Rowse and Charles Moore/Co-Set Designer, Shane Rowse/Lighting Designer, Jae Shanks/Sound Designer, Sarah Oliver/Costume Designer.
THE ISLAND previews through March 11 at H&R Block City Stage in Union Station. Opening night is March 12 and performances will conclude on March 27. Audience talk-backs will follow performances on March 13, 18 and 23.
