Kansas City Actors Theatre kicks off its exciting 10th Year with Paul Zindel's Pulitzer Prize winning play, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds. The company's plays this season all center around the theme "The Art of the Family"...perhaps better known as "The Art of the Dysfunctional Family."

For the first time, Actors Theatre will present this production at The Living Room, 1818 McGee, in the first floor theater. Kyle Hatley directs.

This haunting tale of a young girl's hopes and dreams amidst the squalor of a decaying family illuminates universal truths about the human struggle for acceptance and the different ways that people respond to life's cruel uncertainties.

The all-female cast features veteran actor Melinda McCrary in the role of Beatrice. Ms. McCrary is thrilled to rekindle her association with the play, having played the role of the young dreamer, Tillie (Beatrice's daughter), at the Missouri Repertory Theatre when she was a youngster beginning her professional career.

The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds opens with Previews August 13-15 at The Living Room. Opening night is August 16 and performances will conclude on August 31. Audience talk-backs will follow performances on August 17, August 22, August 27 and August 31. For tickets, call the Central Ticket Office at 816-235-6222 or go to www.kcactors.org.
