Due to amazing public response to Moisés Kaufman's staging of Into the Woods, Kansas City Repertory Theatre has just announced that the show will extend its run one week. It will now close after the 2 pm performance on Sunday, October 11. Terry Teachout of The Wall Street Journal wrote earlier this year, "Eric Rosen, the company's new artistic director, seems well on the way to pushing ... [the Rep] into the top rank of American regional theaters." The Rep continues their evolution with this acclaimed production.

Into the Woods has earned wide-spread critical acclaim and has had standing ovations and enthusiastic support from the audience, which has fallen in love with Kaufman's unique interpretation of what goes on in a little boy's mind when he hears these amazing fables. Actors on wires, Rapunzel's supernaturally long braid dropping from her tower, and an amazing and seemingly instant transformation of the hag witch into a creature of beauty, all add up to a night of magic and splendor at the Rep.

In addition to the shows already scheduled through October 4, the following performances have been added to the extension week:

Tuesday, October 6 - 10:00 a.m. student matinee.
Wednesday, October 7 - 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, October 8 - 7:00 p.m.
Friday, October 9 - 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, October 10 - 2 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, October 11 - 2:00 p.m.

The Into the Woods cast of seventeen actors consists of Lauren Braton (Rapunzel), KC Comeaux (Jack), Patrick DuLaney (Steward/Boy's Father), Claybourne Elder (Wolf/Cinderella's Prince), Zackary Hoar (Boy), Katie Kalahurka (Florinda), Katie Karel (Lucinda), Melinda MacDonald (Cinderella's Stepmother), Tony Award-nominated Euan Morton (Narrator), Brynn O'Malley (Baker's Wife), Kip Niven (Mysterious Man/Cinderella's Father), Zachary Prince (Baker), Michele Ragusa (Witch), Brandon Sollenberger (Rapunzel's Prince), Tina Stafford (Jack's Mother/Cinderella's Mother/Granny/Voice of Giant), Dana Steingold (Little Red Riding Hood) and Lauren Worsham (Cinderella).

The show also features Anthony Edwards (Assistant Music Director/Conductor/Pianist) and six Kansas City musicians: Tod A. Barnard (Percussion), Greg Briggs (Reed 1), Mark Cohick (Reed 2), Daniel Doss (Synthesizer/Rehearsal Pianist), Jeff Harshbarger (Bass) and Steven Molloy (Trumpet).

The creative team for Into the Woods is Daniel Pelzig (Choreography), Curtis Moore (Music Direction), Narelle Sissons (Set Design), Clint Ramos (Costume Design), Japhy Weideman (Lighting Design), Jeff Dublinske and Andre Pluess (Sound Design, Jon Carter (Hair and Makeup Design) and Paul Mesner (Puppet Design).

All performances and events will take place at Spencer Theatre in the James C. Olson Performing Arts Center on the UMKC campus, just east of the Country Club Plaza. Tickets for Into the Woods cost $15-$55; youth tickets (18 years and younger and students with valid school ID) are $15.
