Kansas City Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce two new promotions within the company: Cynthia Rider has accepted the position of Managing Director and Jerry Genochio will serve as the Rep's Producing Director.
"The appointments of Cynthia and Jerry allow the Rep to continue the ethos we've established of collaboration, integration, teamwork and transparent communication," said Eric Rosen, artistic director of the theatre. "Their creativity, passion for our mission and strong internal and external relationships are key to the continued success of the Rep. I couldn't be more proud and happy that they have agreed to take on these new roles."
Prior to becoming Managing Director, Rider served as the Rep's associate director for advancement, providing oversight for fundraising and other external affairs. A native of the Kansas City metropolitan area, Rider graduated magna cum laude from Boston University in 1985. She has an extensive background in management, finance and funding, grant writing, and partnerships with artists, communities, government and private enterprises. Rider previously served as executive director at Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey for more than six years.
Genochio came to the Rep in 2005 from Alabama Shakespeare Festival, where he served as production manager. His extensive theatre experience includes production management at Utah Shakespearean Festival, Playmakers Repertory Company, Sacrament Theatre Company, Southwest Missouri State University and Florida State University. He has been on the faculty of the University of Alabama, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, SMSU and Illinois State University. Genochio earned his undergraduate degree from Northwest Missouri State University and his M.F.A. in technical production from Florida State University.
Now in its 44th season, Kansas City Repertory Theatre is its region's only member of the prestigious national League of Resident Theatres (LORT) and serves as the professional theatre in residence at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). The company produces plays and events at Spencer Theatre, its mainstage theatre on the UMKC campus, and at Copaken Stage which opened in downtown Kansas City in February 2007. The mission of Kansas City Rep is to present productions of excellence that are diverse, literate and timely, and to provide educational and outreach services for students and our community.
