Faust Theatre opens their 2018-2019 season with returning favorite - THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, book by Rachel Sheinkin, music & lyrics by William Finn.
...SPELLING BEE features Kipp Simmons (Douglas Panch), Connor Branson (Chip Tolentino), Darcie Hingula (Logainne SchwartzandGrubenierre), Tyler Rowe (Leaf Coneybear), Julia Masterson (Marcy Park), Zach Faust (William Barfee), Max Brown (Mitch Mahoney), and Margo Mikkelson (Rona Lisa Peretti) & Madison Dodd (Olive Ostrovsky) in their KC performance debuts.
The production team includes Seth Golay in his Directorial debut, Adee Dancy (Music Director), Matthew Koehler (Stage Manager), Randall Jackson (Assistant Stage Manager), Zoey Davis (Lighting Designer), and Mandy Morris-Newman (Choreographer).
About the show: "Six quirky adolescents compete in a spelling bee, run by three equally quirky grown-ups. An unusual aspect of the show is that four real audience members are invited on stage to compete in the spelling bee alongside the six young characters." Faust Theatre previously did Spelling Bee as a one-night engagement last February to positive audience response, leading to the revival of the piece.
"I'm excited to collaborate with Faust Theatre on an iconic show, and we look forward to bringing Kansas City audiences an honest and fresh interpretation of it," says Golay. "The Bee is a complex lesson in childhood self-discovery wrapped into an 80-minute musical. How we develop, learn skills and faults, and how to use them responsibly. Adulthood is a competitive place: We are thwarted into situations and forced to compete with those we've bested. How to win and miss gracefully, and how to help your colleges and friends through their defeat is the heart of this magical show."
