Theatre for Young America, in its 41st year of offering quality drama programming to young people, is taking enrollments for its 2015 Spring Drama Classes. All classes are hands-on with an emphasis on vocal expression and listening, body movement skills and engaging the imagination. Drama classes and other arts benefit a child's creativity, increases communication skills, enhances reading comprehension, teaches collaboration and assists in the development of critical thinking.

In addition, TYA classes follow the new Kansas Standards for Theatre Education, the Missouri Grade Level Expectations for Theatre Arts, The Partnership for 21st Century Learning Skills and The Common Core Standards of English Language Arts. All Theatre for Young America instructors are professional actors/educators.

Spring semester students perform on stage at their class location at The Whole Shebang, TYA's end of year performance festival in April. TYA also invites spring semester students to audition for our summer professional main stage production performed on the H&R City Stage in Union Station. TYA, on occasion, makes referrals to performing arts groups or agencies when contacted.

The spring semester lasts for 11 weeks and classes are available for children from 3.5 years of age through 12th grade. Classes are held on Mondays at Union Station starting January 26th, Tuesdays starting January 27th at Wonderscope Children's Museum of Kansas City, and Saturdays starting January 31st in the Goppert Theatre Complex on the Avila University Campus. Tuition is $124.00. The tuition cost for Theatre for Young America season ticket holders or those enrolling more than one child is $112.00. Enrollments will also taken up to 4 weeks into the semester on a pro-rated basis or until the class is full. All materials are included in the tuition price.
