In advance of the kickoff of Starlight Theatre's biggest season yet, the City Council of Kansas City has declared Monday, May 2, 2016, as KC Loves Starlight Day in Kansas City.

At their weekly legislative session yesterday, Council members unanimously approved Resolution No. 160331 declaring the special day for Kansas City's historic outdoor theatre. The special action was brought forth by Scott Taylor, 6th District-at-Large Councilman.

For the past 66 years, Starlight has served the Kansas City community by producing and presenting many of the country's best Broadway shows and top-name concerts. Starlight's 2016 summer season will feature more than 70 nights of live Broadway shows and concert artists, providing unmatched entertainment choices to Kansas City residents and visitors.

May 2 was selected as KC Loves Starlight Day because the 2016 Starlight season kicks off the very next night with a concert by alternative rock band The 1975.

Not only is Starlight an entertainment staple in Kansas City, but the organization is also dedicated to enhancing performing arts education through camps, classes, scholarships and Blue Star Awards, one of the nation's largest and most admired high school musical theatre awards programs.

In celebration of KC Loves Starlight Day, Starlight is asking the people and organizations of Kansas City to share what they love most about Starlight on Twitter, using the hashtag #KCLovesStarlight.

Starlight appreciates all of the generous community support it has received for the past 66 years. "We are thankful for the continued love Kansas Citians show our theatre," said Rich Baker, Starlight president and CEO. "Not only does KC Love Starlight, but Starlight Loves KC!"
