Review: 2018 HOLIDAY HARMONY SPECTACULAR at Unity Village MO Image

They filled the stage at Unity Village Auditorium with singers and the air with holiday music in the best barbershop style. The event was the 2018 Holiday Harmony Spectacular staged on December 1 for a packed house of over 1500. Combined choruses of the Kansas City Chorus of Sweet Adelines International and the Heart of America Barbershop Chorus harmonized in full holiday costume.

You name it and a costumed version of it appeared on the concert stage. One singer was dressed as a Christmas tree. Santa made an appearance along with a number of his elves.

A special appearance by the 2019 International Queens of Harmony Quartet, "ClassRing." capped off the concert. The four champions, Michaela Slamka-Johnson, Heather Havens, Mary Duncan, and Hailey Parks are each excellent performers and absolutely hold their own effortlessly.Review: 2018 HOLIDAY HARMONY SPECTACULAR at Unity Village MO Image

The choruses sang both individually and in combined configuration. Between sets, local quartets sang including "4's Company," "Sassaphras," "Grand Opening," and "Date Night." A Children's Chorus presented a delightful version of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer."

Kansas City Chorus of Sweet Adelines International is directed by Michelle Hunget and associate director Heather Schouten. They opened with "Go Tell It On The Mountain," followed by "Where Are You Christmas," "That's Christmas To Me," "What Can I Give Him," and "Holly Jolly Christmas."

Heart Of America Chorus is directed by Bob Velazquez assisted by Carter Combs. The HOA Chorus sang "Caroling, Caroling," "Mele Kalikimaka," and "Hanukkah."

The concert ended with sacred music, the traditional "Silent Night," "Joy To The World," and "O Holy Night."

Concert Emcee was Kimmi Ruder.
