For the third show of their 2015-2016 season, Spinning Tree Theatre's "13" is sure to delight.

"13" is the Broadway production with book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. The show follows Evan Goldman whose life gets turned upside-down when his parents divorce and he is forced to move from glorious New York City to not-as-glorious Appleton, Indiana. Oh, and he's just about to turn 13. So now the man-to-be has to navigate awful young love, social groups, and figure out how to have the best Bar Mitzvah ever.

The Spinning Tree Theatre's production features some of Kansas City's brightest young stars ranging from 7th to 11th grade. As Evan Goldman, Fisher Stewart offers strong vocals and an engaging story-telling ability. As the lead role, he carries the strong weight of the show gracefully while still giving room for the others to shine. Stewart is good at playing the likable character, you can expect to see more from him in the future.

Allison Banks as girl-next-door Patrice, plays the part of lonely outcast well, offering a heart-felt version of What it Means to Be a Friend. Banks also has the strongest vocals of the girls.

The whole cast handles the show's jokes with great timing, leaving the audience laughing in their seats. Each member has a singing voice that is uniquely their own, but together, the group harmonizes well.

At times, it was over-acted and awkward, but for a group this young, they acted professionally and you can tell they put their heart and soul into the performance. It also fits the theme of being young and learning as you grow.

"13" runs through February 28th. For tickets, go to http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2411971 or call (816) 569-5277.
