KANSAS CITY, KS - If you hear the sound of drums and motivational chants on the morning of June 4, you must be close to Unbound's charity mile. Unbound plans to have the loudest cheering section along the 10K and half marathon route in Kansas City's oldest annual race, Hospital Hill Run.

Unbound is in its third year as a charity partner for Hospital Hill Run, and its first year as a gold elite level partner.

The partnership allows Unbound to fill one mile of the race course to cheer on the thousands of runners, including more than 100 Unbound Trailblazers.

When: Saturday, June 4, 2016
Where: Unbound charity mile starts at 31st and Broadway Street
Time: 7:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Kelly Akers, who joined Unbound as a web strategist in January of 2016, participated in Hospital Hill Run last year and said she couldn't help but notice the people wearing neon yellow trailblazer shirts cheering her on.

"My husband and I ran the Hospital Hill 5k/10k re-run last year and it was hard to miss Unbound's presence at either race," said Akers. "From their bright yellow shirts to their enthusiastic cheers and infectious attitudes, I could tell this group was passionate, not only about running the race but about supporting their cause and each other, too. "

Unbound's charity mile will be lined with people of all ages playing instruments provided by Drum Safari, using homemade noisemakers created at Unbound, and holding motivational signs to help runners over the last hill of the race.

"Hospital Hill Run is thrilled to be working with Unbound for the third year," said Beth Salinger, Race Director for Hospital Hill Run. "Unbound brings a lot of participants and volunteers but most importantly the organization brings energy and enthusiasm which everyone loves. This year we are so excited that Unbound is creating a charity mile entertaining and supporting participants from the bottom of Trinity Hill to past Liberty Memorial, a great boost of energy in the final mile of the race!"

To thank Unbound supporters and make the early morning more enjoyable, Unbound will host a free pancake breakfast starting at 7:00 a.m. in the parking lot of their global headquarters at 1 Elmwood Avenue in Kansas City, Kan., for anyone who wants to encourage runners along their charity mile.

Kids will have the opportunity to create noisemakers and the first 150 people at the breakfast event will get a free Unbound t-shirt to decorate and wear along the charity mile. Unbound will also provide a free shuttle service from their headquarters to the charity mile and back to ease parking concerns. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

Hospital Hill Run is one of the oldest half marathons in the country and has grown from 99 runners in the first race to more than 10,000 for 2016. Runner's World Magazine chose the Hospital Hill Run as the 11th best half marathon in the U.S.
