The MTH Theater at Crown Center has announced casting and additional details about its first show of the 2019 season, BIG BANDS ARE BETTER. The original revue, highlighting the evolution of the Big Band Era, will be directed by Jessalyn Kincaid and feature music supervision and big band arrangements by Brad Cox.
The five person cast will feature Alison Sneegas Borberg, Jon Daugharthy, Erikka Dunn, Molly Hammer, and Tom Nelson. The ten member Big Band is comprised of Matt Baldwin on alto saxophone, tenor saxophone and clarinet, Brad Cox on piano, Jeff Harshbarger on bass, Brett Jackson on baritone saxophone and bass clarinet, Marcus Lewis on trombone, Nate Nall on trumpet, Zak Pischnotte on alto saxophone, soprano saxophone and flute, Brian Scarborough on trombone and tuba, Rich Wheeler on tenor saxophone and C melody saxophone, and Sam Wisman on drums, percussion.
The production team also includes vocal music direction by Daniel A. Doss, lighting design by Jamie Leonard, sound design by Jon Robertson, costume design by Shannon Smith-Regnier, and stage management by Lacey Willis. The production is hosted by MTH founder George Harter.
"The aim of our production is to highlight the synergy between big band music and American Standards, and how the Big Band era evolved. We're excited to present tunes from the Great American Songbook accompanied by a 10-piece Big Band in our seven row theater. It should be an exhilarating musical event," said MTH Associate Producer Tim Scott.
