ACT One Presents JOSEPH At Harmony Vineyard 4/2-4/4

ACT One, The Academy of Christian Theater presents, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at Harmony Vineyard Church in Kansas City North. The Harmony Vineyard Auditorium will be a-swirl as the cast of 75 take the stage to present this Biblical rock-opera based on The Life of Joseph.
The high-energy production, which stars Matthew Moberly as Joseph and Alicia Ewing, Madeline Cherrito, Amanda Armstrong, Amanda Price, and Brooklyn Bowman as the Narrators, has it all, from a talented cast to creative sets to costumes that add the definitive touch for each character, including those portraying the 11 brothers and their wives.

The musical play was first conceived by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber for a production at his son's school. With some additional songs and with words by Tim Rice, it was later staged both in London and on Broadway. The production starts with the Narrators telling the story of a "dreamer" to a group of school children. God has a dream for each of our lives, and Joseph triumphs over his circumstances with faith and integrity. The favored son of Jacob (Larry Reeves), Joseph is tricked by his brothers and is sold into slavery in Egypt. He serves in the house of Potiphar (Brent Turner) and is falsely accused by his wife (Allison Hey). After several years in prison, Joseph is promoted to be second in command to Pharaoh (Jeremiah Bollman), saving the country from a seven-year famine and, as predicted by his dreams, saving his family as well. Its themes of jealousy and goodness are triumphantly told through music in a number of styles from calypso to rock and roll to rousing country music. The children's choir is on stage throughout the production and the story is told for their benefit.

Directed by Shannon Le Grand, with musical direction by Dana Borque and Dot Beckham and choreography by Laura Cherrito and Lillian Francis, this is the 12th major production to be staged by ACT One. The show features a cast of children ages 5 through 18 as well as veteran Kansas City performers. A special cast of youngsters, ages 5-7 will be featured as part of the Juniors program (Director, Denise Fair).

ACT One's motto is " . . . performing as one for the audience of One." The theater group has performed at Union Station's City Stage, the Liberty Performing Arts Theatre, and has taken two productions to New York City. ACT One holds open auditions for productions twice a year and holds summer camps for ages 5 through 19.

Seating for the show is general admission with doors opening 30 minutes before each performance. Tickets are $7 for ages 3 and up.
