2009 Cappies Gala Held; Winners Announced

Last night at the 7th Annual Kansas City Cappies Gala, excitement filled the air as the sold out Forum Theater at Belton High School erupted every time another Cappie Award was announced. The Kansas City Cappies Gala is where the very best performers, technicians and writers that high school theater has to offer are honored. With scenes and songs from the top nominees, a montage of all of this year's musicals and some extraordinary talent, the event was a smash hit. Hosted by Beth Bloom Ocheskey, the Program Director for the Kansas City Cappies, and Susan Cooper the Chair of their Steering Committee, the evening went off just like the Tony Awards in New York City. The award presenters ranged from past winners of Cappie Awards, to school board members, actors, singers, theater technicians, directors and producers from all over the region. Included were producer and director, Jeff Church, from the Coterie Theater at Crown Center, and actress, Andi Meyer, who has graced nearly every professional theater's stage in town. All of the evening's nominees and special commendees are invited to take part in the Kansas City Cappies Summer Theatre Program, which will assemble the best young talent in the City and put them together to produce a full scale musical on July 24th and 25th, at 7:00pm, at The Garrison Auditorium, at Center High School, in Kansas City, Missouri.
