SUMMARY:
The Youth Orchestra Manager is primarily responsible for the operations of the New Jersey Symphony Youth Orchestra, the nationally recognized youth development program comprised of four performing ensembles that meet on select Saturdays during the academic year. To accomplish this, the Youth Orchestra Manager collaborates closely with the Education & Community Engagement team as well as with colleagues in the marketing, operations and development departments.
NOTE: Currently, all New Jersey Symphony employees work on a hybrid basis splitting work from the office and work from home. There is a required minimum of two days of in-office work per week for this position, and routine on-site evenings and weekends will be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Manage on-site Youth Orchestra operations and provide logistical and administrative oversight for all ensembles, classes, concerts and special events
-Communicate with students and families about administrative and artistic needs including (but not limited to) upcoming events, program updates, and student concerns
-Schedule weekly semi-private lessons (in person and virtual) for preparatory students and coordinate and track instrument rentals
-Coordinate opportunities for advanced students, including the Peer Mentor program and two chamber ensembles
-Track artistic faculty hours, hire substitutes when needed and assist with payroll processing
-Prepare and distribute music and other materials for rehearsals and classes
-Update and maintain data for the program, including Tessitura database maintenance
-Collaborate with Education & Community Engagement and Marketing teams to develop recruitment strategies, including program documentation and publicity efforts
-Assist with planning and execution of program evaluation and assessment
-Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
-Strong music background and familiarity with classical music (including the ability to read a musical score)
-Demonstrated ability to execute complex logistics and react to and resolve sensitive situations
-Strong computer skills required, including proficiency with standard Microsoft Office and Google applications. Tessitura CRM (Customer Relationship Management) experience is a plus, but not required (training will be provided)
-Great attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
-Excellent communication abilities, organizational skills and experience working with diverse teams
-The discipline to work independently, but also the ability to function as a member of a team
-Familiarity with basic photo/video capture (smartphone or tablet) and editing a plus
-Familiarity with marketing/promotion via social media a plus
-Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
-4+ years of experience coordinating arts and/or educational programs
-Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
-Must be able to work evenings, weekends and some holidays; and provide own transportation to multiple event venues
-Physical requirements include carrying and setting up music folders, music stands, chairs and supplies
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $50,000, commensurate with experience. The New Jersey Symphony offers a generous benefits package, including health, dental, insurance options and pension. Relocation reimbursement is not offered for this position.
