SUMMARY
The Wardrobe & Rentals Assistant assists with planning of day-to-day operation of the wardrobe department and running of performances. This position also assists with the PNB costume and set rentals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
• Assist Wardrobe Manager preparing, disseminating, and archiving show paperwork including costume plots, dresser inventories, dresser tracks, laundry instructions, and costume assignment charts.
• Assist Wardrobe Manager staffing performances, supervising laundry and maintenance work, and instructing dressers.
• Assist Wardrobe Manager with set up and breakdown of dressing rooms and wardrobe space at theater for each run of shows.
• Assist Wardrobe Manager with daily casting and costume assignments during performance runs.
• Pull and prepare all non-design specific costume pieces for performances. (trunks, tights, undergarments, t-shirts, socks, etc.)
• Work with costume shop, stage management and Rehearsal Directors to supply necessary rehearsal costume items for in-studio rehearsals
• Assist with movement of costumes between PNB storage facilities, Costume Shop, and theater. This includes packing/unpacking and labeling crates, checking costumes in and out according to show inventories and coordinating move dates with Costume Shop and Technical Director.
• Assist with costume rentals as needed, to include pulling, packing, checking in/out according to inventories.
• Work with Assistant Costume Shop Manager to maintain costume inventory database
• Work with Wardrobe Manager and Costume Shop to coordinate dry-cleaning of costumes.
• Assist re-stocking costumes, stock items and supplies after performance runs are complete.
• Purchase items as necessary to maintain PNB stock items and supplies such as tights, liner leotards, trunks, dance belts, bras, laundry detergent, etc.
• Work with Costume Shop and Wardrobe staff to ensure all costume pieces are clearly labeled before being taken to the theater
• Work with Costume Shop staff to complete sewing and/or craft tasks as necessary and according to skills
• Assist with fittings and alterations as needed
• Assist with inquiries regarding costume rentals and record in cross-departmental shared rental spreadsheet
• Assist with recording incoming payments and insurance certificates
• Assist with creation of rental inventory and packing lists, and wardrobe instruction sheets to send with costumes
• Travel with PNB Wardrobe and Costume Shop staff to PNB storage facilities to pick up and return costumes for rentals
• Assist with packing costumes to ship
• Assist with inspection of costumes for damage and cleanliness.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong knowledge of wardrobe maintenance and laundry.
• Experience in theatrical costume construction, alteration, and repair.
• Experience in working backstage on costumed productions.
• Excellent communication skills and strong problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
• Able to read and create detailed paperwork and proficient in MSOffice and Access.
• Able to work extended hours and modify work weeks when necessary for specific production needs.
• Ideal candidate will have two years working in ballet or theatre costume shops or comparable experience.
• Demonstrated skill regarding attention to detail including a high degree of accuracy
• Ability to organize and prioritize and meet all established deadlines.
• Ability to perform well under pressure. Flexibility to function with sometimes changing priorities and schedules while remaining tactful when under stress.
• Self-driven with ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Must maintain high personal standards including punctuality and reliability.
• Maintaining a current, valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is ideal though not required.
