Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad
Book and Lyrics by Douglas Jones
Music by Ron Barnett
This stirring drama with music is a classic tribute to the great American who freed herself and hundreds of her people from the bonds of slavery. As Harriet and her friend Sarah Bradford narrate her adventurous life; we share in the joys, sorrows, and challenges faced by this brave woman who changed the world through her courage. This accurate and deeply moving musical history lesson is at turns inspiring, heart-warming, and comical, full of good humor, determination and the charity of its subject. Students will find a new appreciation for Harriet Tubman and a deeper understanding of her times.
Seeking an actor to play the following role:
First Man - African American. To play various roles including Joe, William Still, Henry Ross, and more.
We are also seeking professional performers to serve as Tour Swings. Swings will cover multiple roles in multiple shows throughout the spring season. Spring season titles include Hugs and Kisses, Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, The Jungle Book, and The Frog Prince. During the rehearsal process for each show, swings day to day job will consist of attending rehearsals. Once tours have gone on the road, swings will be scheduled for independent study on their roles, watching local performances of tour shows to stay fresh, and admin shifts in the tour department.
