JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Director of Event Services, the Theater Manager provides event management services and performs operational and administrative tasks to ensure the successful execution of every event at Marcus Performing Arts Center and smooth operation of the Event Services Department.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Carries out the duties outlined in the Theater Manager Manual, in the House Manager Manual for the Wilson Theater at Vogel Hall, and the duties outlined for managing events outdoors.

• Maintain a presence before, during, and after a performance to provide a high level of customer service with seating, ticketing, self-service locations, traffic flow, etc to patrons.

• Supervise building operation standards during performances/events.

• Communicate Front of House standards to the performing groups and instruct Volunteers, Ushers, Usher Captain, and Head Usher accordingly.

• Communicate with Front of House representatives for the performing groups and provide them with support, as needed.

• Collaborate with performing group’s stage management, and MPAC’s Technical Director, as necessary, to establish a plan for the successful execution of each performance, exchange information, and receive permission to open the house for seating.

• Report emergencies to Security Staff. Collaborate with Security Staff and other supervisors to manage the emergency response.

• Inspect public areas to ensure they are clean and presentable. Notify the Engineers of maintenance issues and cleaning staff of cleaning issues.

• Plan for activities happening in the lobby, review setup requirements, and supervise the activities, as necessary.

• Delegate positions and job assignments to the Volunteers, Ushers, Usher Captains, and Head Ushers.

• Manage set up and take down of equipment, signage, tables, etc. during and after the performance.

• Manage the inventory and sale of merchandise in a secured, confidential manner. Put safeguards in place for all types of payment. Affirm equipment is in stable, working condition. .

• Collaborate with the Direct of Event Services to manage Volunteers, Usher Captain and other staff performance concerns.

• Document event-related information to record on the House Report.

• Address seating problems, resolve seating conflicts and handle patron complaints.

• Ensure safety of patrons by enforcing MPAC’s COVID-19 Safety Plan and all safety protocols.

• Makes public address announcements in the lobby of Uihlein Hall, as needed.

• Collect lost and found articles and turns the items in to the Security Department.

• Count earnings from merchandise sales, coat checking services, and theater glass rentals and deposits the money into the safe.

• Assist with developing the skills of the Ushers, Usher Captains, and Head Ushers - trains, coaches, corrects, and supervises. Assigns experienced personnel to train employees learning a new job function. Assists the Director of Event Services with training new Theater Managers.

• Compose House Reports and Room Attendant Reports and distributes them on time.

• Assist the staff of the Catering Service when necessary.

• Assist with securing areas left unattended and unlocks areas of the building, if necessary.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent

• 6 months to 1 year of previous public contact experience.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Tactful, clear and concise oral and written communication.

• Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Gather an analyze information skillfully.

• Ability to work independently and to establish, monitor, and achieve goals with minimal supervision

• Excellent knowledgeable of computer software systems such as Outlook, ticket scanners, VenueOps, Better Impact, Venue Cube, Blackbaud, Microsoft Office suite and/or similar software packages.

• Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization and to the public, donors, customers, business contacts, vendors and elected officials.

• Ability to be appreciative of multiple diverse perspectives, and a commitment to the organization’s initiatives regarding diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.

• Must understand the seat section identification, seat numbering, and floor plans of the theaters.

• Must be able to use a wheelchair, hand truck, keys, two-way radio, and iPad credit card processing technology.

While performing this job, the employee is extensively required to sit, walk, talk, hear and operate, handle or touch. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and reach above shoulders. The employee is required to lift program boxes, push patrons in wheelchairs and carry stanchions. The duties of this job require the use of close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to the following: work in high, precarious places; and work in outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


Salary: $16.00 starting
