Technical Director - Seasonal - ACT of Connecticut

PRODUCTION RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Supervise and manage the build, hang, and install procedures and processes for all technical departments and serve as the technical liaison between technical/design personnel and management.

Coordinate with and oversee department heads to set up and manage the theater space for theater’s productions including but not limited to load-ins, technical rehearsals, events, etc., during this time frame.

Supervise, oversee, and manage theater, the building and all technical personnel, ensuring safe and efficient processes are followed at all times.

Ensure that building opening and closing procedures are always followed. TD will arrive prior to all scheduled work call start times, rehearsal and performance calls, rental start times, etc. to ensure that the building and theater are ready to be used upon arrival of crew, cast, creative teams, renters, etc. TD shall depart after (or arrange for a safe and competent designated other person to do so) work calls and performances, ensuring safe and proper closing procedures have been completed.

Schedule and attend (and run, as needed) all production/technical meetings, as required.

Work closely with and under the advisement of the Producing Director and Artistic Director (or other designated production personnel) regarding budget, and the hiring of crew, heads and other technical staff.

Assist in managing production/technical purchasing and expenditures, as well as proper and organized tracking of receipts that pertain to technical and production expenses for the production.

Bid and negotiate with (in conjunction with ACT of CT Artistic Director and Producing Director and designers) and supervise, outside scene shops for the production.

Manage and maintain all production/technical related paperwork and communications (ie: Dropbox, etc).

Maintain an up to date and correct flow of communication with designers, crews, and other technical staff.

Lead scenic install; provide maintenance during rehearsals, tech; build and/or source set pieces/props as necessary.

Agree to be trained on and learn how to program the theater’s turntable and automated roll drops. Maintain turntable, roll drops, and other automated pieces on a regular basis so as to avoid unnecessary damage and repair.

Oversee and coordinate load-in/tech process/load-out/disposal/rentals/returns.

Oversee and maintain theater inventory (ie: lighting, sound, automation, props, wardrobe, track, curtains, etc.).

Oversee and maintain a safe, organized, and clean theater always.

Assist in developing crew needs for each production in connection with the creative teams, Artistic Director and Producing Director. Assist in sourcing, training and supervising crews.

Coordinate front of house needs with House Manager as required for productions and events (Ie: accessible seating, pre-show and post-show music, etc…).

Provide technical support for education, new works programs and special events during this time frame (ie: annual gala, rentals, Broadway Unplugged, etc).

Maintain and create new relationships on behalf of the Theater (where appropriate and in conjunction with other appropriate theater personnel) with theatrical vendors, scenic and prop shops, etc.

Assist with the oversight and management of the building by ensuring safe and proper operation of all building related equipment and processes.

Additional and related technical responsibilities not stated herein and as needed to keep the theater/production running smoothly and safely at all times, and/or as required by Management.



MORE INFORMATION:

This is a full-time position where nights, weekends, early mornings are required from time to time (particularly while in load in, load out, tech rehearsals and production).

This position will be responsible for overseeing and scheduling other employees.

Qualities required: self-starter, collaborative, good leader, understanding of all technical aspects of theater, and organized.


Salary: 1,000 -1,200 per week
