Technical Director - Circle Theatre

The Technical Director is responsible for scenic design and technical construction for productions of Circle Theatre, Aquinas College and will serve as an advisors for Catholic Secondary School productions. This position reports to the Executive and Artistic Director and will lead all aspects of design, construction, load-in, and strikes. A successful candidate will have experience and working knowledge of technical theatre, assembling labor crews, purchasing products and shop materials, and establishing and managing project timelines while maintaining a safe work environment. The Technical Director is also responsible for the management and upkeep of the scene shops and performing arts center. The ability to teach stagecraft classes at Aquinas College is a bonus.

Sample of Major Responsibilities:

Design, construct, and oversee construction of sets for Circle Theatre and Aquinas College (approximately 10 shows per year) that work in their 400-seat auditorium with a thrust stage.



Maintain all technical equipment, including, but not limited to lighting systems, sound systems and microphones, shop, staging area, and the performing arts center facility.



Collaborate with production teams for stage design.



Engage, train, and organize volunteer crews to build sets for shows and work technical crews for shows.



Supervise and recruit for summer shop internships.



Maintain inventory of props, scenery, set dressing, electrical, and audio-visual units.



Oversee all equipment and materials rentals as needed.



Oversee and coordinate load-in, technical process, and load-out for each show.

Electric Repair and Safety



Education:

Bachelors Degree in Technical Direction or related discipline, with at least five years of experience in the Technical Director's field.



*Preference given to candidates willing to design and teach Aquinas College Stagecraft classes.

*Additional compensation available for scenic, lighting or sound design work for Circle Theatre and/or Aquinas College productions (based on qualifications).
