Roundabout Theatre Company, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit theatres, seeks dynamic professional artists of all theatrical disciplines to join a vibrant roster of collaborative teaching artists.
SUMMARY
Education at Roundabout offers programs that use the stimulating power of the arts to inspire and engage. Our goal is to use theatre to promote social equity through three core program areas:
Teaching & Learning: Partnerships with students and teachers throughout the five boroughs of New York City
Career Training: Career and Workforce development programs for the next generation of dynamic theatre professionals
Community Partnerships: connects to our local communities to ensure that Roundabout is welcoming and inclusive to all
While all artistic disciplines are welcome to apply, we are specifically in need of teaching artists with technical theatre expertise, specifically Electricians, Sound Engineers, and Stage Managers. We are also seeking Choreographers, Music Directors, and Playwrights.
What you may do:
Roundabout Theatre Company Teaching Artists develop curriculum and facilitate sessions for a variety of populations including students in grades 6–12, educators, families, audiences and other groups as needed. Work is primarily distributed through in-school residencies, on-site workshops, and audience engagement events. School residencies occur across NYC's 5 boroughs. Roundabout Teaching Artists sometimes teach their craft, but more frequently use their craft as a vehicle to teach leadership skills, develop social emotional competencies, or connect to content of another academic subject.

Professional skills, training or experience in one or more theatrical disciplines
Experience or interest in teaching diverse populations

Prior Teaching or Teaching Artist Experience
Experience partnering with NYC public schools
Ability to teach in languages other than English
Experience collaborating with people with disabilities
What you should know:
Teaching Artists are hired as part time employees. The rate is $50 per hour for all planning & facilitation and $35 per hour for all required training.
This position reports to the Director of Teaching & Learning.
Scheduling of work is flexible and is based on departmental need.
Teaching Artists are credited on curricular materials, in Playbills and on our website.
Teaching Artists accrue safe and sick leave at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 56 hours of safe and sick leave each Calendar Year.
Occasional professional development opportunities are offered. Roundabout sponsors registration and pays $35 per hour for attendance.
Theatre-related benefits include periodic complimentary and discount tickets.
Formal performance reviews are conducted annually and include 360-degree feedback.
Roundabout retains legal ownership of the product of employee work. No work product created while employed by the Company can be claimed, construed, or presented as property of the individual, even after employment by the Company has been terminated or the relevant project completed.
Roundabout supplies all materials and/or equipment required for assignments.

TO APPLY:
Applicants chosen for consideration will be invited to a group interview, followed by an "audition" of a teaching sample. Group interviews and auditions will be held in-person in midtown Manhattan.
At least one 3-hour interview & audition session on January 11 or 12, 2023.
