Scenic Technical Designer
The Public Theater seeks a skilled Auto CAD and Vector Works a Full
Time Scenic Technical Designer (formerly known as our Draftsperson)
to join a tight knit, dynamic team. The Scenic Technical Designer will report to the Technical Director and work closely with the Associate and Assistant Technical Directors to create technical drawings for multiple shows in 6 theaters. They will work with designers and the rest of the production department to insure all scenery drawings are up to date and integrated into audio, lighting, and video plots.
Essential Duties and responsibilities:
• Generate technical drawings for scenic structures, rigging, and automation.
• Help to update scenic design drawings throughout budgeting and build process.
• Integrate lighting, audio, and video plots with scenery designs.
• Create graphic communications to help convey complex ideas with the various teams involved in a project.
• Update and unify venue drawings.
• Implement sight surveys and create accurate drawings from measurements and notes.
• Help to insure safe and conscientious working conditions.
Requirements:
• 2+ years of large professional theater experience.
• Basic knowledge of scenery technologies, processes, and equipment.
• Proficient in Vectorworks, AutoCAD, experience with 3D drafting preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suites.
• Strong organization and communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment overseeing multiple projects and deadlines at once
• Knowledge of scenic construction preferred.
COVID Vaccine & Booster Policy As a condition of employment, the Public will require all employees who report to work on site (either at the Public Theater or any other workspace or performing location) to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and updated booster series. The Public will provide exceptions only for employees with an approved medical or religious exemption.
Compensation:
The range for this position will be $60k annually, non-exempt, This position is a non-exempt position, in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
