The Props Supervisor reports to the Production Manager and supervises the Props Artisan and Scenic Artist & Props Apprentice in executing all department responsibilities in researching, acquiring, or making furniture, set dressing and props across a varied season of programming in three distinct venues and our touring productions.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborates with directors and designers to identify needs, curate historical and visual research and generate props lists for all productions. Update lists throughout the process.
• Source or fabricate all furniture, set dressing and props from inventory or local retail sources when possible.
• Maintain and organize the properties inventory, including furniture, dressing and hand props. Collaborate with the Production Electrician on inventory of lighting practical inventory.
• Manage props budgets, generate price-outs and track expenses for each production.
• Generate props department build and workflow schedule for each production.
• Attend and Participate in Design and Production Meetings and rehearsals as necessary.
• Communicate with stage management throughout the rehearsal process to ensure that rehearsal and performance needs are met.
• Compile, repair and maintain any props for the touring season.
• Supervise and mentor the Props Artisan, Props Apprentice and any other interns or volunteers throughout the season.
• Participate with the staff in supporting special events as needed throughout the season.
Qualifications and Desired Skills:
• Personable and culturally competent team player who is committed to collaborating in a safe, friendly and inclusive work environment
• Demonstrated professional theatrical experience with a background in technical theatre including 3-5 years of scenic and props technology and design implementation in a supervisory capacity.
• Ability to communicate clearly across departments and with design staff.
• Strong artistic sense, organizational skills and ability to set and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of historical periods and styles accompanied by strong research skills
• General scenic and finish carpentry skills; proficiency with power and hand tools.
• Upholstery and soft goods skills to include hand stitching and machine sewing.
• Faux finish painting a plus
• Working knowledge of Google Drive, Microsoft suite, and photo editing software
• Ability to read and build from designer drafting.
• Understanding of industry safety and OSHA regulations for live performances
• Comfortable working at heights on ladders and lifts
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in low light situations
• Positive attitude and desire to work as part of a team.

This position is eligible for annual and sick leave, participation in company health, life, dental and vision insurance plans, as well as our 403(b) retirement plan. Starting salary is $43,000-$46,000 annually, commensurate with experience for this exempt position. Employment begins July 1, 2024 and is a continuing full time staff position.
