The Shed is a new cultural institution of and for the 21st century. We produce and welcome innovative art and ideas, across all forms of creativity, to build a shared understanding of our rapidly changing world and a more equitable society. In our highly adaptable building on Manhattan’s west side, The Shed brings together established and emerging artists to create new work in fields ranging from pop to classical music, painting to digital media, theater to literature, and sculpture to dance. About the Position
The Production Supervisor, Events/External Rentals will have strong technical aptitude as well as developed budget and scheduling skills, work well under short time constraints, and be able to pivot easily from one task or idea to another. The candidate should be experienced with all aspects of technical production and have an in-depth knowledge of NYC vendors and practices. Candidates should have broad experience working on all types of events including corporate meetings, galas, experiential marketing, fashion, broadcast, music, and product launches among others. Sensitivity to varying clients’ needs and patience amidst changing priorities will help immeasurably in this position. The Production Supervisor, Events/External Rentals will report to the Production Manager, Events and Rentals to work on all events and projects as assigned. The Production Supervisor, Events/External Rentals will work closely with the greater Shed Production, Venue Sales, and Events teams as well as clients, outside production companies, designers, and vendors to oversee the day-to-day production process and logistics coordination. A flexible schedule is a requirement. Patience and a good-natured attitude will be essential.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to
-In concert with the Production Manager, develop preliminary labor estimates for events
-Provide direct onsite day-to-day supervision for load-in, set-up, technical work, event, strike, and restoration of Shed facilities
-Monitor all production elements including staging, lighting, rigging, video and audio installations, hiring and scheduling of all labor crews, and execution of detailed logistics plans
-Work with client and outside production teams to maintain and distribute the daily schedule
-Ensure Shed facility and equipment is well cared for during run of event
-Coordinate and track all labor hours (with IATSE Local 1, Local 764, Local 798, and Theatrical Teamsters)
-Communicate and secure client approval for additional labor costs during the run of the event
-Arrange all deliveries through The Shed’s Dockmaster and Hudson Yards Vehicle Screening System
-Work with Venue Sales team to communicate the scope of each event to the greater Shed community
-Create daily reports to keep Production and Venue Sales departments informed on the status of each assigned project
-Submit payroll for all hourly employees
-Upon completion of event work, in concert with the Venue Sales team and Finance Department, close out the event and ensure proper billing is processed
-Interact with Facilities, Security, and other Operations staff to coordinate all venue activity as it pertains to the assigned project
-Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Qualities
-Three or more years of experience in a supervisor or management position in event production
-Demonstrated broad and deep knowledge of theatrical production and entertainment technology including lighting, sound reinforcement, video playback and projection / LED screens, cameras and broadcast equipment, rigging, and staging
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Significant experience with collective bargaining agreements including IATSE Local 1, 764, 798, and Theatrical Teamsters
-Ability to work a flexible schedule as is common in the industry
-Must be proficient with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat
-Experience with Vectorworks and AutoCad for working with client drawings a plus
-Must be able to be mobile for extended periods of time
Compensation
Salary range for this role is $60,000 to $65,000. Please provide salary requirements with your application.
