Position Summary:
The Production Manager (PM) is an essential member of the leadership team and oversees the production elements of all tours from conception through closing, including pre-production, tech, running/daily operations. The PM works closely with the creative team and producer ensuring the successful design and build of each production. The PM hires and ultimately oversees the crews for each tour. The PM ensures the production meets all production and budget parameters and moves is a safe and efficient manner.
Pre-production and Production Responsibilities:
• Reviews all potential new projects and assesses touring production needs
• Develop and maintain the budget for all aspects of the physical production, tracking expenditures as they occur.
• Develop and oversee the production schedule for each production.
• Coordinate with all creative team members (director, choreographer, designers, associates, etc.) to advance each project
• Schedule and lead all production meetings, including all notes sessions during technical rehearsals
• Review and sign off on the logistics of each route and ensure production elements can be loaded-in and out of the venue safely and within the defined timeframes, and that the route meets all trucking parameters.
• Oversee the creation of the bids, awards, build, and development of production areas including scenic, lighting, audio, and costume/hair for each new production.
• Advance and review venue tech packs and solve any technical issues.
• Recruit and hire all touring crew members.
• Create and maintain technical riders, documentation and inventories for each production.
• Coordinate rehearsal needs including labor, costume space, rehearsal space, etc.
• Oversee and manage the tech period including securing the tech space, and work with the Stage Managers, General Manager, and Executive Producer (EP) to ensure the time is used effectively.
• Develop all operating plans for each tour including the advance plan, load-in and load-out plans and systems, safety checks and systems, road orders, maintenance plans, and manifests.
• Oversee and coordinate trucking plans in collaboration with lead drivers.
• Oversee & create the truck packs and jump plans for the initial venues ensuring crews have time to train and that the production can operate efficiently and meet budget and schedule requirements.
Operating and Close-Out Responsibilities:
• Services and maintains all productions throughout complete tour, as needed (creative oversight, equipment repair approval, etc.)
• Oversee the Stage Manager, Touring Production Manager and Technical Department Heads of each tour, serving as lead point person, and help troubleshoot any issues as they arise.
• Assist with any issues arising with crew members, including with locals, and oversee the hiring and training of any replacement crew as necessary.
• Oversee the first few engagement jump(s) of each tour ensuring the crew is properly trained and able to properly load-in/out.
• Assist with the development of organizational policies, procedures, and systems including job description development, manual development, warehouse storage process, safety procedures, development of information systems (i.e. archives and organizational learning), debrief systems, etc.
• Ensure all production files and tour information is properly archived.
• Oversee the coordination of the close out of each tour, including the safe return and inventory of all production elements.
• Other projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This position requires you to work in a variety of locations and venues, some of which for historical purposes, may not be ADA compliant. The ability to travel, work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. The ability to adapt to multiple buildings / theater venues and work long hours during the technical period(s) in dimly lit environments. The ability to travel via air/train/bus/car for extended periods of time. The ability to perform functions of position remotely from varied temporary workspaces. The ability to drive and have a valid driver’s license. The ability to work varied hours due to touring productions requirements and needs during the production and operating period. The ability to perform job responsibilities in a high stress, crisis management environment and manage multiple staff members’ requirements and priorities and the ability to manage and balance multiple projects.
Education and Experience
1. Minimum 3-5 years experience as a production manager in a theatrical environment, touring experienced preferred.
2. Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
3. Must be able to collaborate with multiple personalities and types of positions (e.g. Director, Producer, technicians, etc.)
4. Computer proficiency and experience with Word, Excel, and Adobe is required.
5. Must have experience working with CAD or Vectorworks.
6. Understand basic accounting terms and practices. Business math and finance knowledge and proficiency with spreadsheets using complex formulas is a plus.
7. Must have experience managing people to obtain desired outcomes using appropriate communication.
8. Extreme attention to detail.
9. Must be familiar with standard office equipment to perform necessary job functions: computer, printer/scanner/fax etc.

Salary: $90K - $100K per year
