Production Manager - The New School

The College of Performing Arts at The New School is seeking a highly qualified Production Manager to join its production team. Supervised by the Producer for Theater and Opera, the Production Manager will oversee and support productions including but not limited to: mainstage theatrical productions, operas, musicals, ensemble concerts, experimental productions, external performance partnerships, and special events. The Production Manager is a compassionate and motivated administrator who prioritizes students and their experience at CoPA. They are a leader and collaborator who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced, and highly team-oriented environment.



The ideal candidate is an experienced production manager with excellent verbal and written communication skills who can present complex information to students, faculty, and staff. They can lead and collaborate to ensure that productions are supported to achieve students’ learning and creative outcomes. They are thoughtful, analytical, and able to develop creative solutions to complex issues.



Formed in 2015, the College of Performing Arts draws together Mannes School of Music, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, and the School of Drama. Students at the College of Performing Arts are actors, musicians, performers, writers, improvisers, creative technologists, entrepreneurs, composers, arts managers, and multidisciplinary artists. Students and faculty at the college collaborate with others across The New School in a wide array of disciplines, from the visual arts and fashion design, to the social sciences, public policy, advocacy, and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES



Serve as lead production manager on assigned projects in the School of Drama, Mannes School of Music, and School of Jazz & Contemporary Music



For assigned projects:



Create and maintain production calendars, schedules, budgets, and show reports



Lead regular production meetings



Attend run-throughs, technical rehearsals, and dress rehearsals



Oversee purchasing



Recruit, hire, and supervise production staff, crew, and designers



Supervise load in and tech rehearsals and work notes calls



Respond to all technical needs with appropriate department heads



Manage payroll and process expenses



Ensure adherence to all local and university fire and safety codes



Mentor student directors, designers, playwrights, actors & musicians through the creative and production process on assigned projects



Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor.



Additional responsibilities as assigned



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience



Three years relevant experience (including internships/apprenticeships)



Experience with opera or musical theater



Comprehensive knowledge of the production process, with working understanding of the operations of Carpentry/Rigging; Lighting; Sound; Carpentry/Props; Costumes; and Video/Projections



Experienced or able to learn and develop fluency in The New School’s suite of applications including Google Suite, Microsoft Office, WorkDay, Tableau, Banner, and 25Live



Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice, and the transformative power of the arts and education



Ability to adhere to university COVID-19 policy and requirements



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



Prior experience in an educational environment



Knowledge of video, audio, and/or other forms of media production



Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks.



WORK MODE



Fixed Split Hybrid: Three to five days per week onsite as assigned. Some nights and weekends are required



SALARY



$59,000 - $64,000
