At Second Stage, we create and champion plays and musicals solely from living American writers. Summary
The Payroll & Benefits Associate will oversee and manage Second Stage’s payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this position will be responsible for processing of payroll and some HR functions. This position requires strong organizational and operational skills to help streamline new payroll and HR systems.
Essential Functions
Payroll Administration
• Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
• Maintain payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
• Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
• Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
HR Administration
• Process and prepare for payment all union benefits related to payroll.
• Reply to inquiries for NYS Unemployment claims.
• Reply to all employment verification inquiries.
Benefits Administration
• Assist HR with onboard new employees including orientation and health insurance enrollment.
• Track employee paid time off, including vacation, sick & personal time.
• Process 401K and Health Spending Accounts payments.
• Process Annual 401K Census documentation.
• Manage Annual Health Open Enrollment in conjunction with the Director of HR
• Process Annual Health Care Reporting Documentation.
• Assist in all other human resource functions and keep informed of changes in regulations.
• Continue to review existing systems and make recommended improvements.
Competencies
• Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
• Proficient with payroll software such as Paylocity, ADP, etc.
• Experience in Financial software (i.e. Quickbooks, NetSuite or comparable)
Required Education
• 3-5 years of experience working in a similarly sized institution, processing payroll & HR functions is required.
• Finance Degree or bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Arts Management preferred
