The Operations Manager is a key team player within Steppenwolf’s general management department (responsibilities and sub-depts include: People & Culture (HR), IT, Facilities, Food and Beverage, Health/Safety, Parking and Security, Artist Contracting, Legal/Compliance). Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Operations Manager is responsible for supporting almost all facets of operations for Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Main support responsibilities for this roll will fall within the sub-departments of: Facilities, Food and Beverage, Parking and Security, and Health/Safety. This position plays an integral role as a proactive project manager and is a strategic partner to the Director of Operations and General Manager in identifying and implementing operational efficiencies and plans, all in service of the many constituents that the General Management team serves annually. Additionally, the Operations Manager partners with the Director of Operations on all facilities management across the Halsted and Kolmar campuses. The ideal Operations Manager brings a high level of understanding of building maintenance, operational efficiencies, and demonstrable experience building responsive work environments and teams that balance efficiency and user-centric support. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: FACILITIES • Manages and is responsible for the hiring of the facilities full time and part time staff • Ensures that daily facilities maintenance requests are being responded to quickly and effectively • Responsible for scheduling all required building-related test and inspections • Coordinates snow removal • Ensures buildings are compliant with city and municipal codes • Works with Director of Operations on acquiring or renewing any pertinent permits or licenses. • On call, as needed, for facility-related emergencies OPERATIONS/OFFICE MANAGEMENT • Acts as liaison between all department representatives, when applicable. • Works closely with the Development/Events Department on campus set up events • Project Management lead and support on various operations projects and initiatives across the company. • Audits vendors and operational plans regularly with a strong equity lens and approach. • Responsible for maintaining contracts with vendors and subcontractors • Responsible for Office Management oversight and receptionist schedule/duties. Works closely with IT and other members of the GM team to ensure the offices in our campuses are appropriately stocked, resourced and set up optimally for our users. PARKING • Supports Facilities Supervisor in Parking permit distribution and tracking for artists, staff, ensemble and board members. SAFETY AND HEALTH • Ensures all safety and security guidelines and procedures are being communicated, implemented and enforced to staff and other constituents. • Works closely with the Director of Operations, People and Culture Director, General Manager, and Executive Director to transition administrative staff back to the office in a hybrid mode post-COVID. Continues proactive communication as the 21-22 season progresses. • Alongside the Director of Operations, is proactive on assessing and implementing policies, assessments, and plans for a safe and healthy work-environment. Full and Part-Time staff supervisory experience preferred. • Ability to quickly adapt to the needs of the organization and employees. • Thorough knowledge and proactive approach to maintaining the properties on our campuses. • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and communication IT tools that best communication.
