Position Overview: Teaching Artist



Reports to: Director of Education and Outreach



We are seeking individuals who are not only skilled artists but also dedicated educators with a commitment to shaping inclusive learning environments. As a Teaching Artist, you'll facilitate classes that cater to diverse learning needs and encourage creative expression in every student. It’s an environment where your love for theatre and education becomes a powerful tool for cultivating talent and passion in young performers. Responsibilities:



Teaching: Deliver a diverse array of classes tailored to various age groups, ensuring every participant enjoys a rich educational journey. Candidates can focus on specific age groups according to their expertise and interests, with classes organized by age bracket, including Broadway Babies (1.5 - 3 years old), Little Thespians (4 - 7 years old), and Rising Stars (8 - 13 years old), as well as courses for teens, adults, and seniors. Classes, lasting 8 or 16 weeks for 1 to 1.5 hours, culminate in a Share Day or performance.



Curriculum Development: Creatively design lesson plans that foster creativity and engagement, supporting social and emotional growth through theatre arts and empowering students with essential 21st-century skills.

Collaboration: Work hand in hand with fellow teaching artists and staff to develop inclusive classes that cater to varying skill levels and interests.



Documentation and Evaluation: Keep accurate attendance, maintain consistent communication with families, engage in continuous assessment, and provide feedback for program improvement.

Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional learning opportunities to enhance teaching practices and theatre expertise.



Ideal Candidates Will:

Be highly motivated, energetic, and organized, with a genuine passion for theatre and teaching.

Possess a robust background in acting, musical theatre, or any related discipline.

Demonstrate excellent communication skills, creating a fun and safe learning environment for all students.

Be patient and compassionate, with a keen enthusiasm for student development and success.



Essential Qualifications:

- Proficiency in one or more of the following: Acting, Musical Theatre, Creative Drama/Story Drama, Directing, Improv, and/or Music Direction.

- Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Teaching Artist or Classroom Teacher.

- Ability to relate to a wide range of populations across different age groups.

- Skilled in classroom management and effective collaboration with colleagues.

- Flexibility and cultural competency in varied educational environments.

- Availability to work weekdays, nights, and weekends.

- Access to reliable transportation.



Preferred Qualifications:



- Degree in Theatre, Education, Educational Theatre, Applied Theatre, other related field, or equivalent practical experience.

- At least two years of related professional experience.

- Experience working with special education needs and diverse populations.

- Spanish language proficiency is highly desirable.

- CPR/First Aid certification is a plus.

Salary and Schedule:

- Non-exempt, part-time, temporary position

- Competitive pay starts at $45/hour for teaching and $20/hour for professional development and promotional opportunities.

- Flexible schedule, up to 20 hours weekly, including evenings and weekends
