Music Theatre Music Director
The Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Performing Arts is a premier institution, nationally recognized for developing talent in both traditional and emerging fields of performance, scholarship, and creativity. The Conservatory invites applications for a tenure-track Music Theatre Music Director to lead the Conservatory’s nationally ranked music theatre program at the Associate or Full Professor rank in partnership with the Music Theatre Director, beginning on August 1, 2025.
Over the last three decades, the BW Music Theatre program (BWMT) has developed into a sought-after program for Conservatory-level education in the field. BWMT is regularly ranked among the top ten programs in the US and, for the last two years, was included on The Hollywood Reporter’s list of “Top 25 Drama Schools in the World.” Over 75 BWMT graduates have performed on Broadway and in National Tours over the last 10 years. The BWMT program boasts a consistent track record of New York senior showcases that result in all students signing with agents in the days that follow. The program is well-supported by multiple endowed funds and enthusiastic donors ensuring the hallmark components of the program continue in perpetuity including the New York senior showcase and annual masterclass series that brings over ten industry professionals to campus each year. The production season includes three musicals each year including an annual co-production with Cleveland’s Playhouse Square, the nation’s second largest performing arts center which boasts the nation’s largest Broadway season subscriber base. Cleveland’s theatre sector is rich including two large professional union theatres, two AEA small professional theatres, multiple community theatres and theatre-related organizations, and one of the largest sources of local arts funding in the US through Cuyahoga Arts & Culture, all of which are partners of the BW Conservatory of Performing Arts.
The music theatre music director will teach courses in the music theatre curriculum and music direct productions, and partner with the music theatre director to lead recruitment strategy and activities, manage and develop collaborative relationships with partners and other professionals in the industry, guide ongoing curricular revision to insure the BWMT curriculum is relevant to industry trends and needs, and maintain relationships with BWMT alumni. They will be expected to continue an active professional career, build strong relationships with Cleveland arts partners, and maintain connections to industry professionals in New York and with regional partners across the country.
Strong candidates will demonstrate a commitment to teaching and developing undergraduate music theatre students; have significant professional experience; possess a related advanced degree or equivalent professional experience; and be a strong collaborator with other faculty members, designers, directors, stage managers, production staff, partners, and students across the Conservatory of Performing Arts.
