The Penn State School of Theatre is searching for a fixed-term Movement Teacher to teach various levels of Movement in both our BFA Acting and BFA Musical Theatre programs. The College of Arts & Architecture is working to establish a culture of anti-racism and anti-oppression that embraces individual identities, fosters a culture of inclusion, and promotes equity through curricula, values, standards, ideals, policies and practices. The ideal candidate will provide evidence of their experience with, and interest in, contributing to these goals We seek someone with teaching experience in a process-oriented methodology--a coherent, tested pedagogy. While Meisner and Stanislavski principles underpin much of the School`s work, we aim to equip our students with experience in and working knowledge of many methodologies and engage the students in the art of wrestling with both the connections and apparent contradictions of various approaches. Evidence of equitable considerations, awareness, and practice regarding curricula development, inclusive practices in educating diverse student bodies or working with a diverse faculty and staff, along with evidence of working collectively to cultivate a culture that supports success and enables all members of a college community to thrive.
Additional expertise and experience in areas such as Michael Chekhov, Jacques Lecoq, Stephen Wangh, Somatic approaches, musical theatre movement, stage combat and fight direction, martial arts, and Theatre for Social Change is of interest.
Sought are applicants with these qualities: a coherent, tested pedagogy; the desire and ability to work within a team structure in which musical theatre, acting, movement, and other performance faculty share responsibilities for student development; the ability to help students move in increasingly self-reliant steps from script to performance; and a commitment to undergraduate students and a diverse faculty and student body.
