Midnight Court Opera - AEGEUS - Midnight Court Opera

DESCRIPTION





Hi! My name is Kelsey Sullivan and me and my producer, Elisa Tarquinio, are looking for non-equity performers to be a part of the cast of my most recent opera, Midnight Court, for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the summer of 2022. This is very far away, yes, but in order to give people time to train and rehearse, we are looking to nail the cast down sooner rather than later. Actors will be paid in housing and/or travel, TBD. SYNOPSIS:



Based on ancient Irish folklore, Midnight Court weaves together two tales, that of Aengus, God of Love, and Aibell, Goddess of the Banshees. Aibell steals men away from their marital beds and castrates them for not pleasing their wives adequately. Aengus just loves love! So when Aengus makes two humans, Rowan and Eabha, fall in love and get married, and Rowan fails to fulfill Eabha's needs, Aibell and her banshees steal him away. Now, Eabha and Aengus must journey through Ireland to convince Aibell to give him back. It is a wet, wild, and wacky exploration of love, lust, romance, and partnership through mysticism and eroticism.





CHARACTERS WE ARE LOOKING TO CAST:



AENGUS: (tenor) eternal, male/non female identifying, God of Love and Lust, bright, boyish, energetic, passionate, impulsive



POC's encouraged to apply.



Age Range: 18-30





AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:



We will be taking video submissions from now until May 19th, 2021 although the earlier the better.



Please prepare one comedic monologue/scene of your choice, as well as a cut of an aria/song that shows your range. Differing vocal styles are welcome and encouraged. You are allowed to submit multiple songs, if necessary. We ask that you break up your clips into two parts - the monologue, and the song (if you sing multiple songs, please break those up as well).



We will let you know if you have received a callback on a rolling basis by May 20th, 2021.





IMPORTANT PRODUCTION DATES:



We will hold preliminary Zoom rehearsals throughout the summer of 2021 so the cast and crew can get to know each other and the script. After that, we are planning to hold a sing through/workshop session at the end of 2021, with rehearsals for that being in NYC in the Fall/early winter 2022. Those rehearsals are possible to do over Zoom, but you would be required to be in NYC for the sing through performance.



Official blocking rehearsals will begin in NYC in May 2022, and last until July 2022. The show goes up in Edinburgh during the first 2 weeks of August 2022.
