Starlight is looking for a dedicated, energetic and hard-working "Star" to join our Operations team as House Manager! This will be a full-time, hourly position that will work year-round.
The House Manager(s) plays a very important role at Starlight, as they are responsible for managing front of house operations of the venue during events including, but not limited to: leading the guest experience, staffing all events, training event staff and volunteers, preparation and distribution of event info sheets and reports, and venue safety.
Essential Functions & Duties:
• House Manager for all events at Starlight Theatre including outdoor and indoor Broadway shows, concerts and other public and private events as needed.
• Serve as venue’s representative in interactions with venue guests and is responsible for their seating and safety.
• Advance coordination, planning and staffing with the VP of Operations, VP of Concerts, VP of Production, Director of Ticket Services and Facilities Manager.
• Coordination, training and management of Guest Assist team.
• Work with the Volunteer Coordinator for staffing levels and event oversight.
• Participate in hiring, onboarding and training seasonal Operations interns.
• Pre-event setup and post-event breakdown for Front of House.
• Conduct pre-event briefings.
• Prepare and distribute event information and end of event reports.
• Assist the VP of Operations with minor projects, reports and correspondence.
• Coordination with vendors including, but not limited to event staff, security, police and EMT’s.
• Assist with venue security schedule coordination.
• Participate in implementation of the venue’s Emergency Operations Procedures including Trained Crowd Manager certification and other training as required.
• Work closely with the Vice President of Operations to ensure the goals of the Board are implemented successfully to achieve the best guest experience.
• Understanding and committing to inclusion, diversity, equity and access (I.D.E.A.) at Starlight.
• Additional responsibilities and errands as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Manage contracted staff including event staff, security, parking, police and EMT’s.
• Recruit, interview, hire, train and manage Guest Assist employees.
• Develop and maintain training manuals and performance appraisals; rewarding and disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources and VP of Operations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Proficient and well-educated in crowd management and life safety.
• Knowledge of Front of House best practices for professional entertainment venues.
• Knowledge of management principles and best practices.
• General maintenance knowledge is helpful.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Organized and focused with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
• Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and guests.
• Ability to thrive in areas of ambiguity and complex situations.
• Ability to maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
• Ability to gather data and compile information for reports.
• Ability to examine situations and devise rapid solutions.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Business Management, Venue Management, Operations Management, Sports and Entertainment Management or similar majors desired.
• Minimum 2 – 5 years facility/event management experience.
• Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Previous exposure to theatre or performing arts is a plus.
• CPR certification is a plus.
Physical Demands:
• Work a demanding schedule in excess of 40+ hours per week including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to move and/or lift up to 50 pounds.
• Able to push guests in wheelchairs on slopes up to 18 degrees and assist guests with disabilities in moving about the venue.
• Able to stand and walk on all surfaces during long shifts and able to climb stairs.
• Must work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions (-10 degrees to 110 degrees F) including rain, snow, ice and wind.
