Job Title: Head of Automation & Rigging

Location: The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater, Pleasant Grove, Utah



Job Summary: The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Automation & Rigging to lead our automation and rigging department. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and expertise in theatrical automation systems and rigging practices. This role is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and operation of all automated and rigging systems, ensuring the highest standards of safety and

efficiency. The Head of Automation & Rigging will work closely with the production team to design and implement innovative solutions for all productions.



Responsibilities:



Automation System Management:

-Oversee the design, installation, programming, and maintenance of automation systems for all productions.

-Develop and implement standard operating procedures for automated systems.

-Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to automation systems.



Rigging Management:

-Supervise the installation and maintenance of all rigging equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

-Develop rigging plots and plans for productions in collaboration with the technical team.

-Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of rigging equipment.



Project Coordination:

-Collaborate with directors, designers, and the Technical Director to determine automation and rigging needs for each production.

-Create detailed project timelines and ensure that all automation and rigging elements are delivered on time.

-Coordinate with other departments to integrate automation and rigging system with scenic, lighting, and sound elements.



Safety and Compliance:

-Ensure all automation and rigging activities adhere to industry safety standards and regulations.

-Conduct safety training for staff, crew, and actors on the proper use of automation and rigging equipment.

-Develop and implement emergency procedures for automated and rigging systems.



Team Leadership:

-Lead, train, and supervise the automation and rigging team, including technicians and assistants.

-Foster a positive and collaborative working environment within the department.

-Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring efficient workflow.



Documentation and Inventory:

-Maintain accurate documentation of all automation and rigging systems, including schematics, manuals, and maintenance records.

-Manage inventory of automation and rigging equipment, ensuring adequate supplies and timely replacements.

-Prepare and maintain budget reports for automation and rigging projects.



Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

-Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in theatrical automation and rigging, including supervisory experience.

-Extensive knowledge of automation control systems, rigging hardware, and safety protocols.

-Proficiency in programming and operating automation systems (e.g., Creative Connors, TAIT, Stage Technologies).

-Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

-Excellent organizational and project management abilities.

-Effective communication and leadership skills.

-Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

-Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours as required by production schedules.

-Physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment and materials.



Compensation and Benefits:

-Annual Compensation: $65,000 - $72,000 per year (based on experience).

-Benefits: Health insurance, dental plans, 401k, life insurance, long & short-term disability, paid time off, and other company-specific benefits.
