POSITION SUMMARY
Under broad supervision of the Costume Director, the Hair & Makeup Supervisor’s duties are to coordinate, lead, and supervise the hair & makeup overhire crew for all DTC productions. The Hair & Makeup Supervisor is responsible for the show build and planning the day to day operations of the Hair & Makeup department, occasionally running shows, and maintaining the artistic integrity and vision of the designers and directors for DTC productions.
This is a full-time, salaried position. It includes a full benefits package: medical, dental and vision insurance, DTC-paid life insurance, voluntary life insurance and 403b programs, complimentary tickets and generous paid-time off. Some nights and weekends, including holidays, may be required throughout the season.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES ● Effectively communicate and work closely with the design team to understand their vision and assess the wig, hair, facial hair, and makeup needs for all DTC productions. ● Create and implement seasonal run crew schedules. ● Hire and supervise the hair & makeup crew for all DTC productions. ● Develop and assign all wig, hair, and makeup tracks and either perform or instruct overhire as needed. ● Maintain communication with the Costume Director to discuss, plan and problem solve wigs, hair, and makeup needs for all DTC productions. ● Build wigs, facial hair, and hair accessories as assigned and have items ready for fittings and technical rehearsals as needed. ● Determine and create roller sets, styling and application of wigs and facial hair for all productions. ● Organize and update all hair & makeup paperwork, including photographic documentation. ● Ventilate, build, and alter wigs and facial hair. ● Coordinate and execute the maintenance of the design and styling of wigs and hair. ● Maintain continuity of design. ● Provide makeup products and appropriate skin care for actors as needed. ● Manage and schedule actor haircuts, hair color and treatments, and other services whether they be conducted in house or at a salon. ● Maintain stock, equipment, and supplies for hair, wig, and makeup in all DTC work areas. ● Coordinate fittings with designer and stage management. ● Serve as hair and make up representative at production meetings during tech and previews, providing necessary information to overhire as needed. ● Organize and implement hair and make up strikes for all productions, returning rentals as needed. ● Record and turn in receipts according to deadlines while working within show and general budgets. ● Monitor, approve, and submit payroll for all overhire. ● Maintain safe working conditions in keeping with AEA, OSHA, and DTC health, safety, and COVID19 Response Protocols. ● Implement theatre policies in keeping with DTC’s Mission, Vision, and Values. ● Provides regular updates to the Costume Director on all areas of responsibility. ● Attend and participate in full company, departmental, and production meetings; in addition to technical rehearsals and previews for all productions. ● Perform work in a manner that is consistent with DTC’s Mission, Vision and Values. ● Be an active participant in DTC’s work towards equity, diversity and inclusion and becoming an anti-racist organization by: o Participating in all DTC-wide EDI trainings, workshops or experiences o Participating in all EDI learnings or experiences cultivated within the Production and/or Costume Department.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENT ● Demonstrate leadership, work as part of a team and provide cover and assistance as necessary. ● Foster and maintain a healthy, productive, and collaborative work environment. ● Able to work under the stress of deadlines and adapt to changing priorities. ● Able to handle a high volume of work and attend to numerous projects concurrently. ● Comply with Actors Equity rules and regulations. ● Comply with all OSHA regulations for creating and maintaining a safe work environment.
● Proficient with Dropbox, the Microsoft Office Suite, and G-suite. ● Advanced knowledge and experience with all types of wigs and hair types. ● Advance knowledge and experience with cap construction, ventilating, period hairstyles and facial hair. ● Advanced knowledge and experience with theatrical makeup, special FX makeup, period styling, and skin care.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS ● Able to work quickly and accurately in a complex and fast-moving environment. ● Minor physical lifting required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE RECOMMENDATIONS ● An equivalent combination of an undergraduate degree in theatre with a focus in costumes or hair/makeup and 1-2 years of makeup, ventilation, and wig building experience, or: ● 3-5years of makeup, ventilation, and wig building experience. ● Prior experience in management of run crews. ● Board Certified Cosmetology License (desired, not required)
COVID19 REQUIREMENTS: ● Ensure that all work is performed in alignment with DTC’s COVID19 Response Protocols ● Be able to provide documentation of full vaccination of a US-government approved COVID19 vaccine regimen for COVID19 including the appropriate booster shot as soon as they are eligible, at the time of hire.
Salary: 40,000 to 50,000 Annually
