As the oldest professional theater on Long Island located in Bellport Village, New York, The Gateway offers year-round programming in theatrical entertainment and education. The Main Stage Season offers Broadway-caliber musicals and plays using talent from Actors Equity Association and musicians from Local 802. The Gateway and The Gateway School for the Performing Arts also produces children’s theater productions throughout the year. The Gateway School for the Performing Arts trains both children and adults with countless success stories of students now working in the professional field both on stage, film, and in television. An immersive Halloween event is produced every fall along with additional special events such as concerts and one-night performances throughout the year. Job Description Overview – Grant writer is responsible for writing proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects. Must have the ability to submit timely and accurate reports for all existing grant-funded projects. The Grant Writer is responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to research, prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundations, and corporate sources.
Duties include:
• Ability to perform research on foundations and corporations; to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants.
• Ability to work with the finance department to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs.
• Compliance with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors.
• Understanding of institutional history and programs familiarity of fundraising for arts and theatrical organizations.
• Maintenance of current records in the database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting.
• Tracking statistics relevant to development and provide department with written materials necessary for donor stewardship (visitor number and diversity, educational program attendance, etc).
Requirements of the job:
• Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
• Strong editing skills with attention to detail.
• Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
• Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
• Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
• Minimum of two years experience with grant writing.
• Previous experience with non-profit fundraising.
• Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
• Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Able to monitor and meet income goals.
Educational Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Writing or similar field
