Lead Scenic Designer - Grand Rapids Civic Theatre

Grand Rapids Civic Theatre (MI) Seeks Lead Scenic Designer to design major productions and take an active role in all activities with scenic needs. Lead Scenic Designer collaborates with the Technical Director, Production Manager, Artistic and Executive Directors to ensure that all programs meet the expectation of high-quality process and product. Demonstrate a commitment to Civic’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values, and enjoy collaborating with staff, contractors, volunteers, and students. Key Responsibilities: Design 6 full productions in the Civic Season. Shares “on-call” responsibilities for scenery during Tech and performance. Assists contract designers for Education and other scenic needs. Works with Technical Director on scenic rentals. Requirements: at least 3-5 years design experience with a wide variety of genres, styles, and budgets, proficiency in CAD and 3D design, and abilty to communicate designs to collaborators. Proficiency in basic carpentry, and scenic painting. Recommended: Projection design, backdrop painting, 3D printing, rigging, upholstery, welding and plastics. Compensation: Full Time exempt position, Salary Range: $50-55,000, Insurance options underwritten at 80-100% of cost,. PTO, parking subsidy, access to other benefits.
