The New School’s College of Performing Arts (CoPA) seeks a highly qualified General Manager (GM) to provide leadership and oversight to operations at CoPA. The GM’s portfolio spans the entire college, with a particular focus on the business and administrative operations of The School of Drama and production activities across the college. Within The School of Drama, the GM provides oversight for business operations with a focus on facilities, administration, theatrical licensing, artist agreements, partnership and collaboration agreements, and theatrical union agreements.
The General Manager is a champion of the vision of The College of Performing Arts and works across the college to continue to develop and integrate the School of Drama, School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, and Mannes School of Music. Within the School of Drama, the goal of seamless coordination between all aspects of administration, curriculum implementation, production and artistic residencies is the ultimate responsibility of the General Manager.

This is an onsite position with opportunities for some remote work throughout the year. Some nights and weekends are required.
Responsibilities:
College of Performing Arts (60%)
● Negotiates, generates, and obtains artist letters of agreement, collaboration agreements, space rental agreements, and licensing agreements for all theatrical, dramatic, opera and special productions.
● Execute and manage theatrical union contracts (AEA, USA, SDC) in coordination with the Production Department and General Counsel’s office, and serves as college liaison with all professional theatrical unions, agents, and managers.
● Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Production and production department on financial, contractual, and facilities aspects of mainstage productions and high-level projects.
● Support the Vice Dean of Finance & Administration and Director of Business Operations in the supervision of administrative operations of the college.
● Partner with HR and the Director of Business Operations to onboard all new employees including full-time and part-time faculty, staff, overhires, contractors, and student employees.
● Process faculty additional duties.
School of Drama (40%)
● Supervise facilities operations and serve as liaison for facilities related issues at 151 Bank Street and Arnhold Hall.
● Maintain faculty personnel files for School of Drama faculty.
● Manage the day-to-day business of the school including payroll, accounts payable, and purchasing.
● Partner with the Senior Director of Development to develop budgets, program language, and proposals for new grants, foundations, and donors.
Minimum Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in business administration, arts administration, the performing arts, theatrical production, a related field, or equivalent professional experience
● Four years of experience in progressively responsible roles in arts, nonprofit, and/or higher education administration.
● Fluent in the understanding and management of budgets.
● Experience working with theatrical unions including AEA, USA, and SDC, and in the producing of theatrical productions.
● Strong analytical skills and the proven ability to develop creative approaches to complex financial, planning, and resource allocation issues.
● Excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to present complex information to various audiences.
● Experienced or able to learn and develop fluency in The New School’s suite of data systems including WorkDay, Tableau, Banner, and 25Live.
● Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice, and the transformative power of the arts and education.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Master’s degree
● Six years of experience in progressively responsible roles in arts, nonprofit, and/or higher education administration or equivalent professional experience
