Great Lakes Theater (GLT) and Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival (LTSF) are seeking candidates for the role of Executive Director, a joint appointment that serves as the administrative leader of two separate but linked non-profit theater companies. The position is based in Cleveland, with a two-month residency in Lake Tahoe during the summer festival there, and occasional additional trips throughout the year. The Executive Director will provide entrepreneurial, flexible, and people-centered leadership for these organizations, which are dedicated to redefining, amplifying, and extending the definition of classic theater. Strong candidates will have the ability to connect with and motivate a wide variety of people, will be equally at ease leading internally within their organizations and being an external advocate and public face, and will have an open, transparent, collaborative leadership style. They will have proven fundraising experience, including strategizing and soliciting gifts and mentoring and supporting the work of Boards and development staff. They will have very strong financial and logistical acumen, and the ability to capitalize on strategic opportunities with an entrepreneurial spirit. Finally, a “can do” attitude and a willingness to find fun even in the more challenging moments will be great assets. Organizational Profile
In 2002, Great Lakes Theater (Cleveland, Ohio) and Idaho Shakespeare Festival (Boise, Idaho) conceived a strategic producing alliance designed to maximize return on organizational investments, increase production efficiencies, create long term work opportunities for artists and share best practices. In 2010, Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival (Incline Village, Nevada) joined the alliance - further contributing to the momentum of the unique producing prototype's success.
Led by the Producing Artistic Director, the alliance's three independent 501(c)(3) organizations have discrete Boards of Trustees and share many key staff members. The theaters share jointly-created productions - each featuring long term, multi-city employment opportunities for artistic company members.
The Executive Director will serve Great Lakes Theater and Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, two of the three Strategic Alliance theaters. The robust and varied programming within the Executive Director’s core purview has its home in Cleveland’s celebrated Playhouse Square, of which GLT is a Resident Company, as well as seasonally in an outdoor venue on the shore of Lake Tahoe, at the border of Nevada and California. In addition to this professional public programming, GLT and LTSF serve tens of thousands of students, teachers, and other community members each year through deeply-rooted education programming and other community outreach. The Executive Director will join two companies in strong financial shape thanks to years of prudent management and an active attention to increasing revenue. The Executive Director will support deeply committed, experienced staffs and Boards at each company who are focused on strategic ways for their organizations to maximize their impact within their communities. At the same time, the Executive Director will always be thinking of ways to improve operations, identify efficiencies, and find new pathways to success.
