Northern Stage, a dynamic LORT-D professional theater with a budget of $4 million in White River Junction, Vermont, seeks a Director of Individual Giving. This reimagined position will be responsible for a portfolio of donors capable of making annual gifts of $5,000+.
Northern Stage actively engages audiences with world-class productions and extensive educational and outreach programs and serves more than 35,000 community members each year. Founded in 1997, Northern Stage has become the preeminent year-round theater company in the region, offering professional productions of world premieres, classics, and musicals.
The Director of Individual Giving will be an enthusiastic, innovative, and entrepreneurial fundraiser who will build out individual giving programs that deeply engage donors in our mission and the work we produce. The Director of Individual Giving will play a key role in engaging donors who have contributed to the recently concluded Act II Capital Campaign. This individual will be a creative thinker, a proactive communicator, and an eager collaborator, and will be an important senior voice in the company’s external affairs strategy.
The Development Team is led by the Managing Director and is composed of three full-time staff: the Director of Individual Giving, the Assistant Director of Development, and the Development Assistant.
Primary Responsibilities
Serve as a first point of contact for mid-level donors to Northern Stage (often annual donors of $500-3,000).
Develop and implement comprehensive cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for a pool of 40-60 individual prospects.
Secure major gifts at the $1,000-$10,000 level as part of the annual fundraising efforts.
Qualify prospects through individual visits, adding to the overall pipeline.
Devise individualized involvement/engagement strategies for all prospects.
Work with leadership to schedule lunches/theater visits with prospects.
Plan and oversee occasional cultivation events of varying scale.
Ensure stewardship is provided to donors on existing endowment and current-use funds.
Qualifications Desired
The ideal candidate will have three years or more of experience, preferably in a Development setting and direct experience soliciting gifts, or similar experience. The candidate will be interested in growth and professional development, and will be eager to serve as a mentor for other staff. The candidate will be able to set strategic goals and see them through to timely completion, and will have a demonstrated record of meeting deadlines and metrics. This individual will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and will be able to handle sensitive and confidential matters with appropriate discretion. The candidate will possess strong organizational skills and individual initiative, as well as strong analytical and planning skills.
Compensation
$55,000-72,000 annual (exempt), commensurate with experience, plus dental and vision benefits, opt-in 403(b), paid time off, and other benefits. Subsidized housing is available for lease through Northern Stage.
