Job Title: Director of Individual Giving

Manages: Individual Giving Department (4 Full-Time staff members)
Reports To: Vice President of Development
Scheduling: Mon-Fri, 10-6pm w/ some evening and weekends required for performances.
This position primarily works from the administrative office.
Job Overview: The Director of Individual Giving is a senior member of City Center’s development team and is responsible for all facets of the Individual Giving program, inclusive of membership and all annual gifts. At this unique moment, the Director of Individual Giving will work closely with the Vice President of Development and Individual Giving team to re-envision the Individual Giving program in preparation for the post-pandemic theater reopening in Fall 2021. The Director is expected to demonstrate a passion for fundraising while upholding City Center’s mission, and our commitment to being an anti-racist organization.
Job Responsibilities
• Direct all facets of annual giving including strategy, solicitation, benefit fulfillment, administration, reporting and long-term relationship management for individual members and donors.
• Work closely with Vice President of Development to create a comprehensive annual fundraising plan each season inclusive of short and long-term strategies for annual donor renewals and acquisitions (year-end appeal and other solicitations throughout the year).
• Oversee the Individual Giving team in managing their portfolio of donors who make up our Friends of City Center members ($100 - $2,499), President’s Council ($2,500 - $10,000), Fall for Dance Patrons Committee ($2,500 - $10,000), Dance Council ($10,000+), Chairman’s Council, ($15,000+), and Major Donors.
• Effectively manage a personal portfolio of donors and prospects and work closely with the VP of Development and Individual Giving team to strategically steward donors to higher giving tiers.
• Collaborate with VP of Marketing to coordinate communication strategies and develop and execute a comprehensive approach to donor conversion efforts among subscribers and single ticket buyers.
• Liaise with the Education Department to find ways of incorporating educational programming into annual donor cultivation efforts.
• Work closely with Database Coordinator and Research Assistant to implement data mining and analysis initiatives.
• Conceive and execute cultivation events surrounding City Center’s Mainstage programming in partnership with artistic staff and Director of Special Events.
• Coordinate donor invitations to ancillary events such as the Studio 5 series, dance tech, private studio rehearsals, Choreography Fellow showings, cultivation lunches, and other cultivation events.
• Be responsible for achieving the annual giving revenue target each year and managing annual budgeting and reforecasting for Individual Giving area.
• Provide input into the management of donor patron services and house seat ticketing requirements for both self-produced and externally produced events, rehearsals, and seasons held at City Center.
• Oversee all communication materials required to support the Individual Giving program.
• Take part in regular prospect management meetings to discuss strategy and action plans with regard to prospects and current donors.
This Role Requires:
• 8+ years of fundraising experience at a performing arts or comparable institution
• Previous experience in the areas of individual giving and/or membership
• Scheduling flexibility to attend performances and events on nights, weekends, and holidays
To be successful in this role, you will be expected to demonstrate:
• Proficiency with various software programs including: MS Office Suite and Tessitura or CRM equivalent
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to approach work with a spirit of collaboration and cooperation
• Ability to communicate effectively and strategically
• Ability to lead, manage, and mentor a team of fundraisers with multiple projects and priorities
