The New Group, one of New York’s leading Off-Broadway theaters, is seeking a growth-minded candidate for the role of DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE to contribute to our expanding Development department. This individual will be a critical member of the team, temporarily reporting to the Interim Development Manager and then to the incoming Director of Philanthropy, and collaborating with our fundraising consultants. They will support efforts across all campaigns, initiatives, and events, including our annual Gala. A successful candidate will have some experience in a forward-facing fundraising or customer service position and demonstrate an ability to balance multiple projects. As The New Group’s donor community grows, we expect the development department to evolve, offering significant opportunities for professional growth.
Founded in 1995, The New Group is an award-winning, artist-driven company with a commitment to developing and producing powerful, contemporary theater. In addition to producing three annual productions, the organization’s New Group/New Works play and musical development program champions original works by emerging and established authors. The New Group also operates a variety of theater education programs including a Summer Conservatory for teens, college access programs, and a college-level BFA Acting program in collaboration with LIU-Brooklyn.
Job Responsibilities
Development Operations
● Process donations in Spektrix CRM daily and prepare timely, accurate gift acknowledgments
● Compile donor lists for production programs and other recognition materials
● Generate donor and prospect lists and development reports for department, as needed
● Manage email inbox for Patron and Board requests including annual benefit fulfillment and event RSVPs
● Reconcile contributions against P&L each month; Resolve discrepancies in coordination with Finance Manager
● Collaborate with Development and Marketing departments on coordinated development communications, including written letters and email efforts
● Other duties as assigned by Development leadership
Individual Giving
● Coordinate the Patron Ensemble program (donors giving from $1,000 - $9,999) including renewals, acquisitions, communications, and benefit fulfillment
● Assist in stewardship efforts, including patron acquisition and renewals
● Support the creation and distribution of donor and prospect communications, thank-you letters, invitations, and collateral
Special Events
● Prepare and manage solicitation and invitation lists; track event RSVPs and seating requests, when applicable
● Support all aspects of the annual Gala, including in-room fundraising and overall event planning
● Assist with day-of preparations and on-site management for events as needed, such as Patron Nights, Opening Nights, and annual Gala; some evening and weekend availability will be required
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
● Prior experience working in a development, sales, or customer service role
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
● Proven understanding of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility, and a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across differences
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google applications, and CRM software; experience with Spektrix is a plus
● An appreciation for the performing arts; knowledge and love of contemporary theater is a plus

This is a full-time non-exempt position, available immediately, with a salary range of $45,000 - $55,000. Benefits package includes health, dental, vision, 403(b) retirement, and commuter benefit plans. The Development Associate will be eligible for overtime pay.
The New Group currently operates as a hybrid workplace with office hours from 10:00AM to 6:00PM Monday-Friday. Administrative staff typically work onsite at the office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This position requires extended periods of time working at a computer, as well as some off-site weekend and evening work for events, such as this year’s Annual Gala scheduled for March 10, 2025. The New Group produces at locations that are separate from its offices and local travel will be required from time to time.
