Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires (MA), is seeking an Deputy Director of Development to join our team in Pittsfield, MA. This Deputy Director oversees our programs in Business Partnerships, Planned Giving, as well as a portfolio of Major Donors. The ideal candidate will have experience as a front-line fundraiser, with proven success with major gift solicitations, and strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities include:
● Business Partners
○ Institute a plan to grow the newly established Business Partner program; Manage relationships with current and prospective Business Partners
● Planned Giving
○ In partnership with the Director of Development, oversee BSC’s Planned Giving program; Solicit new bequests and manage a pipeline of prospects; Steward Legacy Society members through regular communications and events
● Individual Donors
○ Oversee a portfolio of Major Donors to grow our vibrant, mission-driven Major Gift Program
○ Identify and research new donors, devise cultivation and solicitation strategies, and build and maintain funder relationships
○ Support Artistic Director, Development Committee, and DOD in their fundraising efforts, including writing correspondence and solicitations
● Institutional Giving
○ Develop strategies to maintain current institutional supporters and secure new funding, working with Director of Institutional Giving to identify and connect with government and private foundations
● Conduct and oversee research on individuals, corporations and foundations
● Represent BSC in Pittsfield and the greater Berkshire community
● Support the development department at the theatre, at fundraising and cultivation events, and with the broader mission of BSC as required
Qualifications
● Experience in fundraising with increasing responsibility in development, preferably in a theater or other cultural organization
● Excellent written and oral communication skills
● A proven ability to develop and execute winning fundraising strategies and techniques
● The desire to “get out of the office” and build donor relationships, exhibiting follow-through on goals and opportunities
● A positive attitude, concern for other people and community, presence, self-confidence
● Demonstrates a genuine concern for other people and community, a positive presence and self-confidence
● Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat. Experience with Tessitura, Foundation Center and other funder portals is a plus
● Lead by example, inspire coworkers and those you supervise to do their best work and hold themselves accountable
● A passion for theatre and the Berkshires is a big plus
This position reports to the Director of Development. It is full-time exempt with occasional evening/weekend work.
Salary is $50,000-55,000, commensurate with experience plus relocation assistance offered to
out-of-town candidates as well as a competitive benefit package.
