Costume Director - The Old Globe Theatre

The Old Globe seeks Costume Director candidates to lead the Costume department in support of The Old Globe’s 15 show season. The Old Globe is known for the high-quality work done in all shops, and particularly for its excellence in costuming. Productions range from period Shakespeare to Broadway-bound musicals. The Costume Director will lead a shop of 15 to 50 full-time and seasonal employees in all areas of costume construction, wigs and makeup, crafts, and wardrobe support. Responsibilities include the leadership of the costume departments and wardrobe, working closely with visiting designers to execute world class costume designs, directing the work of design assistants, and managing the construction workflow. Management work includes day-to-day supervision of costume employees, the creation and supervision of department budgets, management of show budgets, department payroll, and financial reporting.



Successful candidates must have progressive experience in managing professional costume departments. Experience with a wide range of period productions and musicals is required. Applicants should be able to demonstrate deep subject matter expertise in all phases of costume construction including garment construction, tailoring, and period styles. Applicant must be able to demonstrate rich collaboration in the realization of costume designs for the stage, a drive for excellence in execution, and effective human-centered management of shop employees.
